LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN
GYM INSTRUCTING & PERSONAL TRAINING
This course is designed for those that wish to deliver their own one-to-one personal training sessions with clients whilst also holding the pre-requisite Gym Instructor qualification.
A Personal Trainer’s role includes:
Designing and implementing exercise programmes for a range of individual clients
Collecting and analysing client information to ensure the effectiveness of personal exercise programmes
Actively encourage potential clients/members to join and adhere to regular exercise programmes
Carrying out fitness assessments to establish client fitness and skill level
Identifying, agreeing and reviewing short, medium and long-term goals to ensure the effectiveness of exercise programmes
Providing a range of exercise programmes in accordance with the needs of the clients
Acting as a positive role model for all clients
A Gym Instructors role includes:
Demonstrating the correct way to use exercise equipment
Delivering exercise classes and workshops
Developing personal exercise and diet plans
Monitoring the misuse of equipment and ensure the gym is clean and free of health and safety hazards
Adults (aged 18+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as a Personal Trainer
No academic entry requirements
We strongly recommend that you have experience of gym-based exercises including free weights
You should be fit enough to cope with the physical exertion and individual participation involved in the course
There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2 and 3
Level 2 Gym Instructing:
Unit 1 - Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
Unit 2 - Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
Unit 3 - Health and safety in the fitness environment
Unit 4 - Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
Unit 5 - Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
Level 3 Personal Training:
Unit 1 - Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
Unit 2 - The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
Unit 3 - Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions
Unit 4 - Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
Unit 5 - Programme design and delivery for personal training
Unit 6 - Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
